Kotagiri was an erstwhile summer getaway of the British Raj, much like the better known neighbours, Ooty and Conoor, but far more beautiful. Intriguing in character, it has sprawling tea estates on both sides of the hill and it's valley is a profusion of blooms of different hues. With it's cool climes and the sprawling estate bungalows dotting the valleys, Kotagiri even today has the charms of a hill station. Perhaps why the British Raj found it a place so close to their land in England.
